Meldrum Art – Vlog #2

It was a little easier to produce this time around. It’s fun even if it does rack up the hours. I reckon it will take up 40 – 50% of my time in the future. That means I will have about the same amount of time for painting watercolour. My life drawing will have to take a lower priority.

It will be interesting in the coming months to see if I succeed at vlogging or not. I am learning so much these days when it comes to film editing, I do enjoy being challenged.

art exhibition gallery

My joint exhibition with Tina and Daniel starts today.

Yes, today is show time at Gallery Movitz here in Stockholm. Tina Thagesson, daniel Luther and I are having a joint exhibition. It’s really exciting and I am very happy to be in the company of such great artists. They have a lot of experience so I’m learning a lot from them. If you live in Stockholm please do drop by to Gallery Movitz, Hornsgatan 40.  We open at 11.00 on the 17th of March. St. Patrick’s Day! You are very welcome.

Busy busy busy

I’ve been really busy lately which is a positive thing but it means I find it hard to publish my art. I was at Konstnärshuset yesterday but these are not those sketches because these are from the week before! I think the model’s name is Dennis but I’m not 100 about that. He’s very good, definitely one of my favourite male-models.

Sketched on A3 paper using charcoal pencil and charcoal dust that I apply with my finger.

Interesting people

I think most people I meet are interesting but some stand out a bit more than others. Sofie, last weeks model at Meldrum Kroki is a good example of this. She is an excellent life drawing model and has very feminine poses in her repertoire so I was surprised that she fixes roofs around town during the day. There isn’t an English word for what she does (Plåtslagare), most of the roofs in Stockholm have metal or copper roofs so you could say she is a metalworker.

Sketched on Canson Recylé A4 paper with 2B and 9B grafite.

This year’s s first life drawing

Yes, so nice to be life drawing again after the Christmas break.
I took myself to Konstnärshuset Tuesday. The model, Elena was excellent as always. The lighting is so good at this venue, having a good model too is very inspiring.
My Life drawing (Meldrum Kroki) started last night (Thursday). It’s proving very popular, my living room was totally full of enthusiastic sketchers. The model, Kinda was great, everyone was delighted with her. I will publish some drawings in the next few days. That’s that, now I’m off to lunch in town. I’m going to treat myself to my favourite Sushi restaurant, Ichiban.

Sandhamn – sketch #3

This was a fun sketch to do. I didn’t take me long and I am happy with the result. I will definitely paint a finished version of it in the future. I am obsessed with capturing the light, I think there is nothing more beautiful than the rays of sunshine.

Sandhamn – sketch #2

This is a radar reflector beacon on the island of Sandhamn in the Stockholm archipelago. Not easy to guess what it is I know. It was such a strange object to approach on the lonely windswept beach, a little spooky – cold metal with sharp, angular form.
The sketch is about A5 in size and painted in my Moleskin watercolour journal.

Sandhamn – sketch #1

I have a lovely project to illustrate a book. It is associated with Sandhamn, an island that is a meeting point out in the Stockholm archipelago. This is the first of many sketches I will be doing during this year. It’s a lovely place to visit but I try my best to avoid it during the short summer months – that’s when the flash trash arrive in their oversized pleasure cruisers.
The sketch is about A5 in size and painted in my Moleskin watercolour journal.

Sergels torg

I painted this watercolour of Sergels torg almost a month ago but I have just been too busy to publish it. There are a lot of positive things happening in my life these days and 2018 promises to be very exciting indeed. I feel very lucky, I really do.

I have included a A5 preparation-sketch of the same watercolour, I am showing this because there are certain elements in it that I have not achieved in the larger work. Saying this, there are certain things in the larger one that are better too. I do feel I will paint this scene again, I really enjoyed it.

The final watercolour is 50 x 70 cm
(Arches rough, Full imperial)
