Looking forward to 2018

Yes, I am looking forward to 2018. I don’t think I’ve ever been this excited about the start of a new calendar year. The 31st of December at the stroke of midnight I become a full time artist! I am a little nervous about it but it is nothing compared to the exhilaration I feel, the passion I have for my new career as an artist.

5 year plan
5 year plan

I came up with a 5-year plan exactly 5 years ago. The plan was simple as you can see on my amazing slick graph, my art career was to grow and my web designer career was to decline. To my surprise it has come true and was totally on schedule, amazing!

My plan for 2018 is to start a company and paint like crazy for the first 3 months. I will be developing “Meldrum Kroki” my life drawing sessions that I started back in October. I will also try my hand at producing weekly video vlogs plus painting tutorials or demonstrations. I think that’s enough to keep my self busy.

It’s going to be a fun year in 2018, really looking forward to it.

Happy New Year folks!

New year celebrations

I finished this sketch of Donaghadee harbour today. I actually started the sketch while in Ireland a couple of weeks back.
My last sketch of 2017. I am so looking forward to the new year. Tomorrow I will be a full-time artist!
I have included a few earlier version of the sketch, I know some of you are interested in seeing how I paint. Saunders watercolour paper 38 x 28 sketchbook.
Happy New Year everyone! 😀

The last Life drawing session at home for this year.

I had 9 life drawing sessions in my living room since October, it feels quite normal these days and I think it has been a fantastic success. The models have enjoyed the atmosphere.  My life drawing friends are happy too, they had no problem taking the short bus ride to the Finnberget. The music was enjoyed and the coffee was just right, the lighting was a big plus – everyone appreciated that.

I have been so busy mentally with my work these last few weeks, it hasn’t been fun – breaking up is never easy. Next year there will be big changes and so I will have lots of time for art which makes me so incredibly happy. More about that later in the month.

Meldrum Kroki  starts again on the 11th of January 2018 🙂

Meldrum Kroki nr. 9

Yes, I have had 9 life drawing sessions in my living room and it is proving to be a great success. This week will be the last until January because I have to travel to Ireland. I wonder is there any life drawing in Belfast? I’m sure there is.

These sketches were drawn on A3 paper using a 2b graphite mechanical pencil. The model is very pretty which always makes it very hard to sketch her as one can never do her justice. Here I have tried my best. Please note that I do not use coal on my own life drawing sessions as I have to serve coffee and biscuits during the break. It would not be okey to serve with coal miner’s hands!

A5 sketches again

I run my own life drawing session every Thursday evening. I have responsibilities making sure everyone is happy. This means I have no place to sit as all are taken, a full house makes me happy but it does mean that I have to stand in the background and sketch the best I can. This is why I am using a small A5 sketch book, it is small and easy to hold.
The model is an artist from Syria, she was very good and I hope she will return to Meldrum Kroki early next year.

The joy of the new

We had a new male model at Basis this Saturday. His name was Fritz and he was extremely good, he reminded me of Egon Schiele which isn’t a bad thing as I have him as one of my heroes. I am curious to know where he learned to pose as he did, he must have learned his trade abroad, that’s my guess at any rate.
It was the usual frenetic pace at Basis; 1,2 and 3 poses mostly. I think we had one 5 minute pose. A crazy amount of paper gets used but I really feel I am developing a lot during these turbo sessions. All sketches were on A3 paper and I used a charcoal pencil plus charcoal dust applied with my finger.

A5 sketches

We had another great model at Meldrum Kroki last Thursday. Mollie is new to modelling but I thought her approach was very professional. I sketched on an A5 spiral-bound block. I often have to sketch standing with the use of no table or easel. I am the organiser of the event so I don’t get the best view or position to draw. I really don’t mind, I am really enjoying running my own life drawing session, fixing coffee, chatting and getting to know my life drawing friends a little more every time we meet.

My very own life drawing class

I feel so lucky, I have my very own life drawing class that I run in my home every Thursday evening. It’s proving to be very popular, I am learning a lot – like not to play music with too much of a beat. Brain Eno and Handel piano concertos seem to be appreciated most. I use studio lighting and that seems to be liked a lot. I at least think the lighting on the model is wonderful compared to the other life drawing venues in town.

Next year I aim to rent a larger space and have more attending Meldrum Kroki each week. But right now I am just taking just one step at a time.

Some sketches from my life drawing evenings

Here are some sketches I did at Meldrum Kroki last week and the other day. As I am running the life drawing evening it is not possible for me to sketch during the whole session. I really enjoy it anyway and I am happy just to do a few drawings.
