Busy busy busy

I’ve been really busy lately which is a positive thing but it means I find it hard to publish my art. I was at Konstnärshuset yesterday but these are not those sketches because these are from the week before! I think the model’s name is Dennis but I’m not 100 about that. He’s very good, definitely one of my favourite male-models.

Sketched on A3 paper using charcoal pencil and charcoal dust that I apply with my finger.

Interesting people

I think most people I meet are interesting but some stand out a bit more than others. Sofie, last weeks model at Meldrum Kroki is a good example of this. She is an excellent life drawing model and has very feminine poses in her repertoire so I was surprised that she fixes roofs around town during the day. There isn’t an English word for what she does (Plåtslagare), most of the roofs in Stockholm have metal or copper roofs so you could say she is a metalworker.

Sketched on Canson Recylé A4 paper with 2B and 9B grafite.

Learning curve

I am slowly getting used to filming myself as I paint watercolours!
Yes, I have ambitions to vlog on YouTube, a little about me and a lot about painting watercolour. There are a few barriers to navigate, one is filming myself, that feels so weird and the other obstacle is the amount of new stuff I have to learn like video editing and how to use a Go Pro.
I’m getting there, I had hoped to be on YouTube already but one has to learn to walk before one can run as they say. “Coming soon!”, I can also say that.

Meldrum Kroki

I started having life drawing evenings in my living room last October. It has gone very well, both the artists and the models are happy with the arrangement.
The only negative is that I have to empty my living room and cover the floor with protective waxed paper. It takes too many hours for me to set it up and then dismantle. I would not mind if I have more people attending each week but this is impossible as my living room is full, there is no space.

This is why I am now looking for a large room in central Stockholm that I can use for life drawing on a Thursday evening. I need a room for 4 hours between 18.00 and 22.00 each Thursday.
If you know of such a room, please do get in touch. Click here to contact me or visit the contact page. Thank you.

Meldrum Kroki evening

The second Meldrum Kroki session this year and the 11th in total. It is starting to become more of a routine and less stressful. It was a very enjoyable evening with model Elena who was just great!
One thing that need to be improved though:
I need a larger room, I must rent somewhere in central Stockholm. There is so much work involved in having the life drawing at home, the most time consuming bit is covering the wooden floors with protective paper. It is incredibly cosy though, everyone is very happy to come to my home.

Sandhamn – sketch #3

This was a fun sketch to do. I didn’t take me long and I am happy with the result. I will definitely paint a finished version of it in the future. I am obsessed with capturing the light, I think there is nothing more beautiful than the rays of sunshine.

Sandhamn – sketch #2

This is a radar reflector beacon on the island of Sandhamn in the Stockholm archipelago. Not easy to guess what it is I know. It was such a strange object to approach on the lonely windswept beach, a little spooky – cold metal with sharp, angular form.
The sketch is about A5 in size and painted in my Moleskin watercolour journal.

Sandhamn – sketch #1

I have a lovely project to illustrate a book. It is associated with Sandhamn, an island that is a meeting point out in the Stockholm archipelago. This is the first of many sketches I will be doing during this year. It’s a lovely place to visit but I try my best to avoid it during the short summer months – that’s when the flash trash arrive in their oversized pleasure cruisers.
The sketch is about A5 in size and painted in my Moleskin watercolour journal.

First week report …

My first week as full-time artist was spent swimming in the deep end of video production. I plan to have a regular vlog on Youtube, more about that at a later date. I also want to produce art demonstrations or even tutorials. I really know very little about video production so I’ve been studying Premiere Pro all week until my brain went numb. Now I know how to use my Go Pro camera and my Lumix too. I’m experimenting with microphones, sound recording is harder than I thought. What names should my wee recording buddies have? At last I will get a chance to paint tomorrow. Have a nice weekend.
