I just published my latest watercolour demonstration on YouTube. I painted the scene in the beautiful port of Lipari while sailing around the Aeolian islands recently. Please leave comments about the video, feedback helps me improve my demonstrations.
Cheers!

I have lots of nice memories from when my wife and I visited her Dad in Sicily. We spent a week sailing around the Aeolian islands in glorious sunshine. I really enjoyed painting while we were there. My video technique has improved too so I am enjoying that side to my painting too.
This watercolour I did at home here in Stockholm, it’s a memory from the trip. My wife and her father are walking ahead while I tried to capture a Chein Chung-Wei moment. I have a long road to travel before I can reach the level of master Chein, like I’ve said before – I am enjoying the journey, I may never reach such high levels but what the hell, I don’t really care. What’s important to me is that I try my best to improve everyday.

I am happy to publish my latest watercolour demonstration. I have been frustrated by how long it has been taking me to produce this videos but now I think I’ve found a format that works. By works I mean that they are easier to film and produce. I hope you find this demonstration both inspiring and educational. If everything goes to plan I will be producing these videos more often in future.
We are sailing north of Sicily at the moment, this video was filmed in Salina, one of the seven Aeolian Islands.
40 degrees in the shade

I am in Salina, one of the seven Aeolian Islands north of Sicily. I filmed myself painting this watercolour today. I found a shaded spot to paint the trees in the village square. Shade was the most important word in existence as it was 40 degrees out of the sun, really hot in other words. Anyway, I am going to try and edit the material I filmed and hopefully I have a demonstration video up on YouTube very soon.
Urban Escape

I have a favourite spot in Stockholm at the moment, it’s the corner of Sveavägen and kungsgatan. I am using my own photographs as reference but very soon I will be out in the streets painting plein air for real. After my trip to Spain recently made me realise that this is what I want to do most.

If you live in Stockholm maybe my second workshop on the 25th of May will interest you. I will be showing how I paint urban streets and giving hands on tuition to my students. Visit here for more information. https://www.meldrum.se/meldrum-art-akvarell-kurser/mala-stockholm-2019-05-25/

I stumbled across an image on the internet and it inspired me to do this painting this morning. I would love to give the photographer and the model some credit but there was no information attached to the photo. I made changes to the background but the basic pose is the same.
Please contact me if I have been inspired by your photograph!

Abandoned Caravan watercolour

I wandered around the caravan park I was staying on the last day of my painting trip. The park was pretty empty, it was a day after the Easter weekend. I discovered this abandoned caravan tucked away in a corner, I thought the composition was wonderful so I took a few shots with my phone. I stumbled across the images again this morning when I was wondering what to paint. I decided to do a sketch first and I’m happy with the result. I must do a larger version of it very soon, I still feel it is a great composition.
I stayed at the Moby Dick Caravan Park very close to the centre of Calella. It was quiet and the family running the park were charming.
I had an amazing week staying mainly in the town of Calella but I also visited, Pals, Cadaqués and Girona.
Here are my watercolours from the trip. The great thing about painting outdoors for a week it that you gain such a connection with the landscape you are in. A photograph is only ever an image.

My first workshop – 9th of March

Yes, I am going to try my hand at teaching. I am very late getting this out to people so I’ll be happy if only two come. It’s on the 9th of March which is next week already!
I spent so much time thinking about how I wanted to teach and what I wanted to paint that now time has run out. You got to start somewhere, it doesn’t matter if not so many turn up the first time, the main thing for me is that I start. That’s a major step forward and I am happy with that.
Here is the link to the workshop, it’s mainly in Swedish but I do explain in English at the bottom of the page.
Have a nice weekend folks!
