Holiday snap

I painted this while on holiday in Greece. It takes longer than a photograph but the memory of the occasion is so much stronger because of it.

Corfu, Greece 20150628. Paper: Arches rough 12 x 17 cm.

Weekend sketch

We are not having the best of summers here in Sweden this year. Last week was great though and I took full advantage of it at the weekend. I set up a hammock by the water’s edge and lay there looking at all the boats going by. I live quite close to the city centre so the traffic on the water is intense at this time of year. I later did this watercolour in my sketchbook, I’m happy with it although I wish I had access to better watercolour sketchbooks than Moleskin, I like Arches Rough and so I always find it disappointing when I use the Moleskin. Still, it’s a sketchbook and it will do fine until it’s finished, I will use small Arches blocks in future. If anyone knows of good watercolour sketchbook, please let me know.

Anders Zorn David Meldrum Pencil Sketch

Zorn inspired pencil sketch.

I am reading Anders Zorn’s self-biography at the moment. Maybe this is why I did this sketch of a nude bathing in water. The reference image I found on the internet, the model’s name is Finch Linden.

Lars Lerin

I was reading Lars Lerin’s book, “Mellan husen” last night. It’s a collection of his work from the time he was living in Lofoten. I couldn’t resist trying to do his portrait. It’s close but something is missing.

Saturday’s life drawing

I did some life drawing today, it’s the first time in a while that I’ve had time to figure draw on a Saturday. I enjoyed myself. I love the crowd at Basis, that was the venue.

Tuesday’s life drawing

I am struggling at the moment. Out of balance, too many things to do. Only one sketch worth showing from Tuesday’s life drawing session at Konstnärshuset.

Lunchtime watercolour

I’m trying to get back into a rhythm with my painting. I have been a bit lost lately, mainly because I have so much going on in my life besides art. This watercolour sketch took two lunchtimes to complete. It’s a portrait of a Swedish artist that I admire. It’s not a perfect likeness, I wasn’t concerned with that, I just wanted to paint a picture. Tomorrow I will paint another lunchtime watercolour and it might even be an improvement on today’s effort. Who knows.

Tuesday’s life drawing

Venue: Konstnärshuset, Stockholm. 20150414

It felt good to be figure drawing again after a two week break. I feel frustrated these days, I just don’t have enough time for my art. I am working on it, trying to free up more time in the future. I buy lots of gadgets to improve my art, the latest being Ken Bromley’s paper stretchers, it’s an expensive hobby if you let it be so. I wish time was as easy to buy!

A visit to the museum

A visit to the Natural History Museum in Stockholm, Sweden. 20150319

I was with the Stockholm Urban Sketchers last Sunday, we spent half a day having fun sketching all the stuffed animals. It’s kind of morbid but at least they don’t move when you’re trying to draw them. I really enjoyed it, I’ll be going back there again soon.
