One of my favorite models, she is like a angelic fairy and quite creative in her posing. The more difficult ones I never publish, it’s very hard to capture a human knot, it doesn’t matter how beautiful it is. I wish I could remember her name, I’m so bad with names.
I had the same model (Roza) as I had on the Saturday, different venue and more time for each pose. My paper was A4 and the grain of it was different from what I am used too so it took a few bad drawings to get used to it. I don’t think A4 is big enough to express good lines and expression.
My first life drawing since the spring and I decided to use my watercolours. I used cheap Canson watercolour paper, I hate it compared to Arches or Fabriano but it’s just too expensive to waste a block of quality paper during a life drawing session. I used Koo i noor woodless watercolour sticks for the first time, I really liked them so I’ll be using them a lot in future. Each of these watercolours took five minutes to complete, at that speed one cannot hesitate – a quick line sketch of the figure and then paint as much as you can in the remaining time before the pose ends. It’s stressful for sure but I find it exhilarating.

I wish there were more opportunities to paint longer model poses here in Stockholm. Maybe the art colleges have. If anyone out there knows of same position, one, two or three hours model posing please do inform me.
This watercolour took one hour in total to paint. I say in total because we had a 20 minute coffee break after forty minutes. See previous post for the last painting from the evening, it was a quick one that took 10 minutes.

I have a friend visiting Stockholm at the moment. He goes to life drawing nearly everyday when he is in town. I’m going to more sessions because of this. It’s fun, I meet new people I wouldn’t otherwise meet.
I’m back to using charcoal dust and smudging with my fingers. It like this technique, it’s fast and expressive. The only negative is that it’s pretty messy but that’s a small sacrifice for the sake of art!

I held my pencil right at the end of the shaft. I kept my arm totally straight while my sketch pad was down on the floor while I sat. Interesting results I think, quite lively.

I did some life drawing today, it’s the first time in a while that I’ve had time to figure draw on a Saturday. I enjoyed myself. I love the crowd at Basis, that was the venue.

I am struggling at the moment. Out of balance, too many things to do. Only one sketch worth showing from Tuesday’s life drawing session at Konstnärshuset.
